French Court Rules Continental Airlines and Employee Guilty
Anybody remember the Concorde Crash of 2000 in France? The accident killed 113 people at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris and, according to a recent article, “a French court found Continental Airlines and a mechanic at the airline guilty on Monday of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the…crash.” I’d be willing to bet that Continental Airlines was not expecting that kind of verdict…don’t let that be your business. Don’t allow the unexpected losses of a lawsuit threaten the health of your business.

Summary of Blogging and Photosharing 101 Seminar with Encharter Insurance
So this morning, Dave Siekman and I were at the Greater Waterbury Chamber of Commerce to talk to local businesses about how they can use blogging and photosharing to their competitive advantages.
Blogging:
Be sure to find a hosting site that you’re comfortable with. We like WordPress, but you can use Blogger, Typepad, etc. Be sure that your content is fresh; you should probably blog no less than once a week. Be sure not to duplicate content and be sure that the content is relevant; relevant to:
- Your Business
- The Times
- Your Audience
Of course, the only reason to have a blog is to boost your SEO, so feel free to put hyperlinks in your entries that point back to different pages on your website, but NO LINK SPAMMING! Avoid link spamming by inserting hyperlinks to other websites in your blog entries (which you should do anyway in order to give credit to your sources). To look for new ideas, use tools such as Google Trends and the Google Wonder Wheel or even news sites.
Photosharing:
Again, find a site that you’re comfortable with. We like Flickr, but you can use Shutterfly, Picasa, Fotolog, etc. It’s great to put your photos online to see them and let them look pretty, but don’t forget about the “sharing” part of photosharing. Use your photos as opportunities to network by posting your photos in groups and to your contacts and participate by leaving comments on their pictures.
Of course, these suggestions are by no means exhaustive and are only a quick summary of today’s talk. If you have any questions, or you are interested in a FREE social media consultation (and you are a business owner in Massachusetts or Connecticut), then contact us today! You can find us on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Flickr, LinkedIn, or you can email us at socialnetworks@encharter.com .

Workplace Violence Coverage from Encharter Insurance
Due to the tragic events of the past week in Connecticut, the question becomes: “How can a business owner protect his employees and his business from workplace violence?”
Workplace violence insurance can help. According to a recent article from InsureCast, “Workplace Violence insurance coverage is protection against the expenses that a company can face resulting from incidences of workplace violence, including the cost to hire independent security consultants and public relations experts, as well as payment of death benefits and business interruption expenses.” It’s terrible, but these are the statistics with which we live, courtesy of InsureCast:
- Every week, nearly 20 workers are murdered at their place of work
- Every year, companies report:
- 650 workplace violence-related homicides
- 2 million assaults
- 6 million serious threats
It’s time to be sure that you, your employees and your business are safe! Talk to your local Encharter Insurance today about how Workplace Violence Insurance coverage can help you.
